Cav-Form is a new and innovative building system designed to protect cavity walls from debris and moisture.
The system consists of a cavity forming spacer that is easily attachable to most proprietary masonry ties and the timber frame wall ties, a Cav-Form backing board and a retaining clip. The system creates a perfectly uniform, clean and dry cavity every time.
The Cav-Form backing board is, by design, an integral part of the system. Manufactured from recyclable polypropylene corrugated board, it is held into place using the Cav-Form device, wall tie and retaining clip.
One square metre of Cav-Form system replaces 10 concrete backing blocks when building a cavity wall wth natural stone. A remarkable and cost effective way of reducing building costs. Using the Cav-Form system can typically reduce your equivalent cost in concrete block installation by 50% saving time, money and carbon.
The Company is based in the heart of the Ribble Valley in Lancashire. The system has been developed by the company founders who are award winning prestigious house builders.
Evolution of the Cav-Form System
Evolution began on the construction site, with the perpetual search for improved techniques and materials to reduce costs and improve quality. Decades of adaptations and redesigns produced a number of solutions, each an improvement on the last. Put simply, the device we now bring to the market is the culmination of twenty years of design, redesign and refinement.
Practical Advantages
Consistently creates a perfectly clean and uniform cavity, especially important when used with timber frame and SIPS type of construction.
· Eliminates the need for an additional backing block wall when using natural stone.
· Insulation is firmly fixed creating a snug fit against the inner leaf, ensuring thermal integrity of the building is never compromised
· Easy to manipulate, reducing labour costs
· Quick to assemble, reducing contract duration
· Light and easy to store and transport around site
· Less excavated material to form foundations
· Less spoil to be removed from site
· Smaller foundations requiring less concrete
· Eliminates any risk of water ingress to the building via the cavity
· Significantly increases floor or living space of the building, typically allowing for additional en suite, bed or study rooms in smaller buildings
Economic Advantages
· Elimination of the backing block wall reduces costs, not only of the blocks themselves, but also the associated labour. Taking delivery, handling (often re handling) and storing pallets of blocks on site all have time, and therefore cost implications
· Simplicity of construction means less experienced and qualified staff can quickly and safely become involved with minimal training and supervision
· Less spoil from site reduces costs in relation to the reuse, recycling and ultimate disposal of waste
· Additional floor space, a welcome advantage with this system, will always add value
Environmental Benefits
· Elimination of the backing block wall delivers huge positive gains in terms of environmental impact. Manufacture and transportation of large volumes of concrete blocks is significantly reduced. The lightweight compact system can easily be handled, carried, loaded and unloaded without the need for mechanical lifting gear
· Cav-Form is made from recycled materials. Reuse and recycling underpins policies relating to both manufacture and procurement
· Thermal value is enhanced by means of the snug fit which is achieved by the Cav-Form device. Insulation is permanently held firm against the inner leaf.
