How should you dress a house? In Britain as a whole, and particularly in England, brick remains the most popular choice. It’s traditional, it looks good and it ages well. But not everyone likes brick and there are many regions where it isn’t widely used, such as in stone belt areas, and also in the wetter regions of the country where it is avoided because it is not as waterproof as the other options. Here we look at the relative costs of using alternative claddings, and at some of the issues surrounding the choices to be made.
Stonework costs around £180-200/m² for random-coursed stone and £150-180/m² for random rubble. Built against a backing block the cost increases by £145-155/m².

Cav-Form Limited
Clean, Dry & Uniform Cavity Protection - Created by Builders for Builders
Cav-Form Limited is based in the heart of the Ribble Valley in Lancashire and now operates throughout the UK and internationally. The company's unique and innovative system has been developed by the company founders who are award-winning builders of prestigious homes. "If anyone could see the need, we could!"
The Cav-Form™ 3-Step Cavity Protection System has been developed specifically to take cavity wall performance to a long-awaited level of excellence. This supremely simple system also happens to reduce build costs; to save time and labour, and it is environmentally responsible and wholly recyclable.
The whole industry knows the original problem that we set out to solve. A cavity compromised by builder's rubble, damp or moisture compromises the entire build, long term. The cavity must remain clean, dry and of uniform size.
Remedial costs can be significant, particularly with timber-framed buildings where water ingress can be disastrous.
Cav-Form Limited provides a supreme quality answer to one of the construction industry's most perplexing and long-standing problems.
